The GILLES HEBERT Story
I first met Gilles in1977 when he was playing for
Shawinigan in the Quebec major jr league. He wanted to enter Concordia
but had not completed CGEP. I suggested he get in touch with the
Hawkesbury hawks jr A team. He had a difficult time obtaining his
release but after a court order he was allowed to play in Hawkesbury. Gilles
joined the stingers in 79 and entered the engineering program. He was a great player and leader and was sensational
in our bids to win the nationals in 82 and 83.He finished his career
with 253 pts in 220 games, our 2nd all time leading scorer. One
fond memory I have was in Dundee Scotland in 1980.We won the first ever
British challenge cup and were treated to a tour of the famous Edinborough
castle. The tour guide was a war vet who had a thick scottish accent. We finished the tour and
I asked Gilles ,how he liked it. He said " I really enjoyed it ,but what
language was the guide speaking"?
